SUMMARY:Intro to Resin Printing (April 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Introductory course on basic safety and operation of resin 3D printing equipment at Mill Forge Makerspace. Resin printing offers a number of advantages over the more common filament (FDM) 3D printers but presents its own quirks and challenges! This class will cover basic safety and operation of resin 3D printer\, slicer and printer management software. \n\n\n\nAnticipated coverage will include: \n\n\n\n\nProper personal protective equipment\n\n\n\nOperation of the resin 3D printer\n\n\n\nBasic skills for preparation of 3D models for printing\n\n\n\nHow to do post processing on a resin 3D print\n\n\n\n\nAttendees will be able to print and take home a small model. Due to the time required to print\, attendees will be able to retrieve their printed model the next day. \n\n\n\n3D Printing Class\n\n\n\nAppropriate attire required: \n\n\n\n\nClosed-toe shoes\n\n\n\nNo loose clothing\, jewelry\, or accessories\n\n\n\nLong hair tied back/up or securely covered (e.g.\, under a well-fitting hat)\n\n\n\nFull seal eye protection (goggles or face shield)\n\n\n\nHalf mask respirator\, face shield respirator\, or PAPR hood with organic vapor cartridges\n\n\n\n\nPPE will be provided\, but we ask you to supply your own if possible. \n\n\n\nAttendees should bring a laptop computer if they are able. A limited number of computers are available for attendees who cannot bring one. The software for the class is supported on Mac and Windows\, and Linux. SUMMARY:Build a Cajón
DESCRIPTION:Build a cajón – a simple wooden instrument with the versatility of a drum kit! Originally from South America\, particularly Perú\, and derived from African wooden drums\, the cajón has found its way into flamenco\, rumba\, folk\, blues\, jazz\, and other musical traditions. It is a fairly simple design and easily portable. \n\n\n\nCajóns can be as simple as a box with a thin “tapa” face for striking\, or can be customized with snares or strings\, adjustable sound holes\, feet\, pedals or levers\, decor\, and more. \n\n\n\nThis image was originally posted to Flickr by Dave Catchpole at https://www.flickr.com/photos/52957117@N04/5990865523. cc-by-2.0 via wikimedia.org\n\n\n\nClass attendees will cut the basic parts\, assemble the box\, and attach a snare. Attendees should have taken a Mill Forge intro woodworking class or be certified on woodworking equipment. Students with some prior woodworking experience may contact info@millforge.org for other options. \n\n\n\nThis project can take longer than the allotted time\, especially if customizing the design\, applying a finish\, or for less experienced carpenters. If students would like to return to complete the box to their liking after the 4 hour class\, a day pass can be added to the class at a discounted price ($25) when signing up or on the same day as the course. \n\n\n\nA cajón in progress
