DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy a taste of woodturning.  Learn how quick\, easy and relaxing it can be to carve wood into a wide variety of shapes. No prior woodturning (or even woodworking) experience is required. An instructor\, all tools\, materials and safety equipment are provided. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClass size is small for lots of one on one instruction.  You’ll learn that woodturning has more in common with driving a car or shaving than with carving wood with a jack knife.  Many beginner students even comment about having unexpected\, meditative moments when wood seems to just flow off the turning tool. If you like the experience\, longer class are available  where you can make a functional item. \n\n\n\nThis class also provides members and day pass users with certification to use the lathes at Mill Forge Makerspace.

Mingle with neighbors\, enjoy drinks and snacks provided at the event\, and check out projects created by the makers at Mill Forge! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow it Works: \n\n\n\nJust show up with items you want to have repaired! Fixable items include bicycles\, clothing\, jewelry\, lamps\, small furniture and small appliances. One of our “fixers” – volunteers with particular repair skills and tools – will fix your item and help you learn how to spot problems and repair them in the future! \n\n\n\nPlease note: fixing is free but not guaranteed. Also\, if your item needs a replacement part\, you will need to buy or reimburse the fixers for that part.

DESCRIPTION:Intermediate course on basic safety and Intermediate-level course on operation of resin 3D printing equipment at Mill Forge Makerspace. Resin printing offers a number of advantages over the more common filament (FDM) 3D printers but presents its own quirks and challenges! This class will cover basic safety and operation of resin 3D printer\, selecting and preparing a 3D model for resin printing\, detecting and preventing common problems with resin prints\, and use of software for model slicing and printer management. \n\n\n\nBasic familiarity with FDM (filament) 3D printing or completion of Intro to 3D Printing at Mill Forge is recommended prior to this class. \n\n\n\nA minimum of 3 students must be signed up for this class to run. Unless otherwise arranged with Mill Forge staff\, the class may be rescheduled if the minimum is not filled by two days prior to the first event. \n\n\n\nThis course takes place over three two-hour sessions. Please sign up on the listing for the Day 1 session. \n\n\n\n\nDay 1: Selecting\, supporting\, and tuning a 3D model for Resin. Basic Resin printing process & equipment overview.\n\n\n\nDay 2: Error checking\, scaling\, and printing a model. This class will cover basic care and feeding of the machine and use of the control & design software for it. \n\n\n\nAnticipated coverage will include: \n\n\n\n\nLightburn design & control software for laser cutters & engravers\n\n\n\nComponents and setup for the laser cutter/engraver\n\n\n\nConfiguration and recovery for typical projects and issues\n\n\n\n\nAttendees will be able to select and cut or engrave an item on the laser cutter to take home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAppropriate attire required: \n\n\n\n\nClosed-toe shoes\n\n\n\nNo loose clothing\, jewelry\, or accessories\n\n\n\nLong hair tied back/up or securely covered (e.g.\, under a well-fitting hat)\n\n\n\n\nAttendees should bring a laptop computer if they are able. Anticipated coverage will include: \n\n\n\n\nComponents of the open-source Maslow CNC router\n\n\n\nWebControl control software for Maslow CNC router\n\n\n\nConfiguration and recovery for typical CNC projects and issues\n\n\n\nComponents\, setup\, and safe operation of the laser cutter/engraver\n\n\n\nLightBurn design & control software for laser cutters & engravers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAttendees will be able to select and cut or engrave an item on the laser cutter and will work together on a small CNC project. \n\n\n\nAppropriate attire required: \n\n\n\n\nClosed-toe shoes\n\n\n\nNo loose clothing\, jewelry\, or accessories\n\n\n\nLong hair tied back/up or securely covered (e.g.\, under a well-fitting hat)\n\n\n\n\nAttendees should bring a laptop computer if they are able.
