SUMMARY:Boston SolidWorks User Group - December 2025
DESCRIPTION:The Boston SOLIDWORKS User Group (SWUG) is operated completely by volunteers with the aim of promoting the sharing of skills and information related to the use of SOLIDWORKS and to create a forum for networking within the design and engineering community. \n\n\n\nSmarter Design for Maker Projects — Top-Down Assemblies & Multibody MagicJay Pinheiro\, GoEngineer \n\n\n\nWhether you’re building props\, robotics\, furniture\, or any weekend passion project\, SolidWorks has some seriously powerful tools to help you design smarter and prototype faster. This session dives into how makers can use top-down assembly techniques and multibody part workflows to keep complex builds organized\, flexible\, and easy to update when inspiration strikes (or reality intervenes). \n\n\n\nYou’ll learn: \n\n\n\n\nHow to drive multiple parts from a single master part\, sketch\, or assembly for quick\, parametric updates\n\n\n\nTechniques for creating full assemblies inside one part file using multibody methods\n\n\n\nWhen to choose top-down vs. multibody (and how not to accidentally scramble everything)\n\n\n\nPractical examples pulled from real-world maker builds like props\, enclosures\, and mechanical linkages\n\n\n\n\nJUST ADDED! \n\n\n\nCombining Subdivision (Sub-D) Surfacing and Parametric ModelingCraig Therrien\, Senior Product Manager at Dassault Systèmes \n\n\n\nWant the best of both worlds? This session dives into how subdivision surfacing and classic parametric modeling can work together to create stylized\, ergonomic designs—fast. You’ll get an overview\, a live demo\, and practical tips for blending the two approaches in your own workflow. If you’ve ever wanted to model curvy organic shapes for anything from flight controls to cosplay armor\, this is the one for you. \n\n\n\nThe group is free and open to anyone with an interest in expanding their knowledge of SOLIDWORKS and related technologies utilized in design & engineering fields. \n\n\n\nOur goal is to create an atmosphere for relaxed professional networking – our events are very casual and we encourage members to share their work experiences. \n\n\n\nYou need not be a current SOLIDWORKS customer\, and membership is free of charge! \n\n\n\nBostonSWUG is part of the SOLIDWORKS User Group Network which consists of dozens of groups and thousands of users across 25 countries. \n\n\n\nRefreshments will be served.
