Here We Go!

Mill Forge Makerspace has been slowly building towards reality for almost a year, but we’ve finally arrived! Hardly feels like it, but over the last 12 months, we’ve come a long way. Now we’re ready to welcome you to our maker community: Join us on Saturday, August 9th at 11:00 AM for our ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration! More details to come soon, but for now, we can tell you there’ll be good food, good company, stickers, and deals for charter year members.

Back in June of 2024, we first toured available spaces in Walpole, Dedham, Westwood, and Norwood. We ended up seeing 61 Endicott in Norwood with Elijah Arnold. HiveBoston was what we called the idea back then, and there were some great spaces to start it at the old mill complex (still are, in fact!). When we saw building 46, though, it sailed to the top of our list.

A huge warehouse viewed through wooden loading dock doors. The warehouse floor is heart pine with posts every 12 feet or so holding up the 12-14 foot ceiling. five-foot-high windows in the white brick walls show the darkness outside (because it's nighttime)
Look at all this space!

By October, we had a lease. By the end of 2024, we had heat, mostly (that was a cold month and a half). We originally expected to open back in February or March, then April, then June… The building had been vacant for almost 5 years – the steam pipes had frozen and cracked, copper pipe and wiring had been looted, and parts of the electrical system were pushing 100 years old. Construction is hard!

But as of last week, the good folks of the Town of Norwood have signed off on (almost) everything, and we’re good to go! Our big idea is finally going to be a reality. The makerspace is here, the tools are ready, and we’re wrapping up the finishing touches so we can help you make your ideas a reality, too.

A five foot wide Mill Forge Makerspace sign bolted to an exterior yellow brick wall. There is a white "coming soon" sticker attached to the left end of the sign, over the honeycomb logo.
