Bernina 642 Favorit Sewing Machine

Manufacturer

Bernina

Model

Bernina 642-2 Favorit

Description

Classic Bernina zigzag sewing machine with a 1/4 hp motor. Capable of sewing three or more layers of sailcloth. An oldie but a goodie.

Notes/Tips

  • Not all original attachments are available, but this machine has the power for tough work, and the precision for basic appliqué and embroidery.
  • Unlike many newer machines, this machine cannot be backed up by turning the flywheel in reverse. Turning the balance wheel backwards with the flywheel can cause the top thread to catch and jam.

Training Requirements

  1. Read and understand manual linked below or have experience with a similar Bernina or Bernette machine
  2. Demonstrate basic skills

Video

  • Wind and Thread a bobbin on a Bernina 640-2
  • Bernina 740 Tutorial (very similar Favorit model)

Manuals

  • OEM manual (If anyone is willing to transcribe and reformat this manual, Mill Forge and Bernina would be appreciative!)
