A wooden rolling pin is a good beginner turning project to explore spindle turning. Creating your French style rolling pin will teach you how to use a roughing gouge and your skew chisel.
The dimensions are not critical. You will learn how to turn a rolling pin about 13″ long and 1 1/2″ in diameter, focusing on tool selection, sharpening techniques for gouges, finishing options, and safe operation of the lathe. Try a few different lengths and diameters to see what works best!
